Workers compensation can be a complicated field both for employees who are injured in the course of work and for companies trying to ensure workplace safety. Maine Employer’s Mutual Insurance Company (MEMIC) helps employees and employers navigate these issues by selling workers comp insurance, ensuring injured employees get the care they need to return to work, and helping companies provide a safe work environment. Unlike other insurance companies, MEMIC focuses solely on workers’ comp, ensuring the highest level of attention to improving the lives of workers across the United States. 

Struggles and Pains

More than 30 years after MEMIC started in Portland, Maine, the company has expanded to 510 employees, with 400 working out of one of five offices along the U.S. East Coast and another 100 working remotely. This growth presented challenges for MEMIC’s HR and IT teams, who struggled to effectively onboard employees with UKGPro, Active Directory (AD), and Entra ID profiles. Additionally, MEMIC struggled to implement effective access control, presenting security risks when employees had access to systems outside their role, and retained access well after being terminated. MEMIC needed a solution that could relieve the burden on its Sysadmins by automating identity access management (IAM).

Resolution
