From delicious cakes to colourful candies, desserts hold a special spot in meals, celebrations and simple joys of life. Yet, behind these sweet treats lies a complex challenge faced by individual farmers: managing the unpredictable tides of agricultural markets while ensuring sustainable practices that preserve the land for future generations. 

Sugar Cane Growers Cooperative of Florida, Inc. (SCGC) emerged from this landscape of challenges. Founded in 1960, SCGC brings together local growers in Florida to collectively navigate market challenges and ensure sustainable agricultural practices by pooling their resources and expertise. It follows a vertically integrated approach in which sugarcane grown by its members is harvested, transported and processed, and the raw sugar is marketed and distributed through its partner firms. The Cooperative produces more than 350,000 tons of raw sugar annually, which, once refined, is enough to serve customers across various sectors, including the food and beverage industries. 

Struggles and Pains

While Sugar Cane Growers has become a household name in sugar production, behind the scenes, it faced significant challenges in managing the employee lifecycle of its diverse workforce comprising agricultural labourers, administrative staff, and managerial roles. Its sysadmin had to spend a significant amount of their time in making updates to employee records across all systems manually upon happening of every employee lifecycle updates.

Considering the lack of integration between its HR system, Paycom and Hybrid AD (Active Directory), the company could not timely allocate licenses and access to the right employee, which hampered employee’s ‘First Day’ experience and compromised data security and privacy. These problems led SCGC to look for a solution that could automatically sync updates between its HR system and Directory service to streamline employee lifecycle management.

Resolution
