When we count the most exemplary self-made people of the present era with stories of humblest beginnings to great success, the name of Tom Gores indubitably comes up. Born in Israel in a family of six children, Tom began his career working at his uncle’s grocery store when he was just a teenager. Despite facing numerous challenges, Tom’s passion for entrepreneurship and desire to make a difference in the world helped him overcome these difficulties. In 1995, he founded Platinum Equity, a private equity firm that embodies the lessons of hard work, perseverance, and identification of undervalued assets that Tom learned throughout his life. Today, Platinum Equity is a prominent global investment firm with approximately $36 billion worth of assets under management. It has expert teams and investors working around the world from six different office locations, managing a diverse, global portfolio of companies operating in various industries, generating billions in revenue, and employing hundreds of thousands of people across the globe.

Struggles and Pains

Platinum Equity has come a long way since its founding in 1995, with just $200,000 in seed capital. Today, the firm is a global investment powerhouse with over 50 companies in its portfolio, generating over $89 billion in aggregate revenue. However, with such rapid expansion comes challenges, and Platinum Equity is no exception. 

As the firm grew to operate across various industries and locations, managing its large and diverse workforce of over 500 lead executives became increasingly complex. The existing HRIS and IT access management systems – ADP and Entra ID (Azure AD) – proved inadequate in handling the scale and complexity of employee management across different locations, roles, and organizational structures. Consequently, manually synchronizing employee data, updating the Global Address List (GAL) and security groups, and managing accounts and access privileges became time-consuming and cumbersome tasks. To address these challenges, Platinum Equity’s Sysadmin recognized the need for a solution that could automate the entire operation iteratively without risking compliance and accuracy.

ADP WFN is a challenging system when it comes to integrations. We looked at all sorts of different ways to streamline onboarding/autoprovisioning but ultimately landed on Hire2Retire.

Gores and Platinum Equity consulted on a variety of forums to see if there was a way to automate onboarding, terminations, and role changes efficiently and effectively across HR and IT systems.
