Situation

In 1914, a municipal zoo was founded in Jacksonville, Florida with a red deer fawn as its first exhibit. Over 100 years later, Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens is one of the city’s top attractions. With over 2,000 animals and 1,000 plant species on a property spanning over 100 acres, it’s not hard to see why over a million people visit the zoo annually. Beyond the entertainment and tourism value, Jacksonville Zoo also contributes to education through field trips, classroom programs, and conservation programs help keep rare and exotic animal species safe from extinction.

Struggles and Pains

As Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens celebrated its 100th anniversary, its leadership wanted to address a growing employee lifecycle management problem. Manually managing over 350 employee profiles and synchronizing them between Paycom and Active Directory (AD) was overburdening Jacksonville Zoo’s Sysadmins, and the knock-on effects were felt throughout the organization. New hires suffered from poor employee experience on their first days at work, stuck waiting to be correctly provisioned with system access. Similarly, employees often retained system access well after being terminated, opening security risks. The extra resources necessary to keep things moving in any kind of timely manner were creating a quickly growing cost sink, so Jacksonville Zoo decided to find a solution that could help integrate Paycom with their AD.
